I'm in DC today with my family. It was a full and fun day.
Worshiped with National Community Church at their Union Station Campus in the Phoenix Theaters (at their 9AM gathering). Cool to see how they run kids ministry in a theater setting. Their speaker today happened to be Shaun Alexander who plays for the Washington Redskins. Wasn't a teacher/preacher, but it was real and authentic. (I'm not a sports guy, esp. NFL, so didn't know who he was by name)
We traveled everywhere by metro. Was cheaper than a cab, a better experience, and helped with the ton of walking we did - we walked ALL day.
After church we hit the US Capitol Building with a view of the Supreme court and the Library of Congress.
Walked into the National Mall area where all the museums are.
Only had time for 3 museums. National Air and Space, Smithsonian Institution, and the Natural History (the one where Night at the Museum was filmed).
Happened to be earth day in DC today - go figure. So I wore a NO MEAT sticker for a few hours after someone stuck it on me. Apparently the meat industry in America alone is one of the leading industries that has a negative effect on the environment. Weird fact: their burps and farts alone apparently put so much gas into the air - b/c there's 10 billion living animals in the industry (no comment, I like meat). Oh, a group called Black Violin performed among many (they caught my eye b/c it was 2 violinists fused with rap/hip-hop).
Saw the White House (from far) and the Monument.
Ended the day at a cool little sandwich place called Potbelly. The night before we grabbed dinner at Ella's (what great pizza - the sauce tasted homemade).
Watched The Bucket List - I know, it came out 2 years ago. A great movie. Franca cried.
Good night.

Hey Dave,
sounds like you're having a good time. I'm glad. You really did get to 'do' a lot of the city. If you happen to see a Rita's Water Ice (http://www.ritasice.com/)on the way down to Florida, or on the way back; stop and have some. The kids'll love it. My favourite was grape.
Have fun,
Deanna
I'll check it out. I loved DC. I will have to go back again and see the rest.
