28 year old man was pulled from out of the rubble in Haiti today, four weeks after the earthquake. It is humanly impossible to stay alive for this long without water.

From CNN:

"The man told doctors that someone was bringing him water while he was trapped, but doctors told CNN that he sounded confused and at times appeared to believe he was still under the rubble.

Connelly said the man must have had some water during the past month to have survived, but Connelly wasn't sure how he would have had access to it."

"Reporter Dr. Sanjay Gupta said the 28-year-old man was severely dehydrated but that he survived because a man in a white coat brought him water time to time. Officials are checking the veracity of the man's story.

Gupta said the man "must have had water" to survive for nearly four weeks pinned in the rubble."

iPad... i wonder

Last night I was all caught up with the news of Apple's new creation.

I love the new features in Calendar (finally they added the 'week at a glance' view), the ability to read Magazines in a vivid platform, and the iBook app.

But really, would someone spend 600-800$ (b/c you obviously want a 3Gs version) on an iPad for that reason? Not sure yet.

The more I think about it, it looks more like a an over sized iPhone, and for someone who has an iPhone and a smaller MacBook... what would they do with an iPad - perhaps like one review said - it's an iSunday - for those leisure Sunday reads on the couch.

This was a funny quote from InformationWeek: The iPad is like living with your parents -- there's a lot you can't do, but there are undeniable advantages.

Tech fans here in Montreal apparently weren't too impressed.

My first thought was: this can become my next laptop... but not sure, unless version 2 or 3 allows you do more than open apps and read books.

Then again, who knows, if the book and magazine industry continue to move digital it will be an amazing library to carry around! And, the sheer fun of surfing, emailing, playing, and reading on a such a slick designed piece like the iPad might be what everyone is looking for.

financial diets

I wonder if there's moments we need to go on a financial diet.

The state of the economy right now definitely demands some type of wise response. I can see how the economy needed to get right sized. But more than that, we're bloated in our spending and perception of what makes us happy.

Just like we often realize... I don't need all this fat on my body...

We can also take stock and ask,
... do I need all these clothes in my wardrobe
... do I need all these channels on my dish
... do I need all these dining experiences in restaurants
... do I need all these gadgets on my kitchen counter

Go on a diet.

I'm writing this from a cafe, and I've been fighting the urge to buy a cookie with the coffee I'm drinking. Big deal! It's 1.65 more? You're right. But then I ask, do I need it. Does my body need it? Does my budget allow it.
I have another coffee meeting tomorrow - the cookie will buy my next coffee. Multiply that by 2-3 appointments a week in a coffee shop over 1 year and you get - 300$ (hmm, that sounds nice in my budget right about now!)

Just a thought from a struggling consumersitic individual.

I like the simple approach, stay focused on a few things...

Larry Norman dies... but lives on...

Larry Norman was a household name for me. This crazy 60's and 70's rocker type rocked our world. He loved Jesus, but also loved Rock-n-Roll. I'm no music critic and am a little too young to have been as immersed into Larry's music than my older brother Rick and his gang (Rick's 10 years older than me), in fact my the time I was listening to Larry it was ok (not great, but ok) by my Christian parents who wouldn't let Rick go see people like him when he was a teen-ager. Apparently Larry Norman wasn't Christian enough for some people. Anyways, I still have tons of lyrics in my mind from his originals and remakes that shaped me in some ways. He helped people see that God could redeem even the worst parts of our culture. That didn't make Larry the purest of people, he had his character flaws no doubt (don't we all)... but he did do his best to live in the world and not of it.

Well, an era died with Larry Norman yesterday, and let's hope that artists who love Jesus continue to speak the truth in love in the circles they find themselves in. I'm encouraged to hear of a few in Montreal trying their best at this (David Hodges, Dave Martel, some poets, etc.)

maturity?

mature, in my book does not mean the "churchly," those who have mastered the vocabulary and the litany of church life, who come alive only when the church doors open. Rather, I have in mind those who walk through all the corridors of the larger life—the market-place, the home and community, the playing fields—and do it in such a way that, sooner or later, it is concluded that Jesus' fingerprints are all over them.
