My church gets involved with Operation Christmas Child (5 years now). We generally raised money and filled 300+ boxes in one serving event. This year we went the other way and let people fill as many as they could. I think it's a nice change.
This year allowed my family a few hours of shopping, packing, and praying for the boxes we filled. Lots of fun for our kids to pick things out for their box and for me to intentionally think about the child who might get this. We all wrote our own personal notes. After they were packed we all shared a prayer for the kids who'll open these up. Who knows, some might get a gift for 1st time. Something might spark in their heart towards the God that loves them.
Tommy Walker sings I Have a Hope, and in the bridge says: There's still hope, for me today, for the God of heaven loves me.
My prayer is that many of these kids will know that there's still hope for them, because the God of heaven loves them.
