This summer I made a wild decision. I would bike to near by appointments.
When I'm in an office, on the phone, or using my laptop, I'm usually in my home office (that's the only office I have outside of local cafes). Outside of that, I'm with people... and it's usually over a coffee in a local Starbucks/2nd Cup - usually their choice.
When my meetings are not more than a 10-20min. drive, I bike it. Instead of driving 3 min. to the near by appointments/meetings, I've decided to take the bike (10min.). It gives me some time to think, a great way to exercise, and a wonderful way to save on gas.
Honestly, I've had to overcome the awkwardness of showing up with a bike, when the other person is in a car. Or saying good by, undoing my lock, and pedaling away.
This morning I showed up at an appointment early to do some extra work, as I rode up another person from my church was with a friend having coffee, and announced, "I think that's our pastor riding his bike towards us." OK, see, a little strange... but good, really good.
Seriously, it's been a great thing, and I hope I continue.
