10-10-10 (book)

I haven't read this book (10-10-10), but the concept sounds simple and practical.

Before making a decision out of emotion or excitement ask yourself this question: what will I feel like 10 minutes from now, 10 months... and 10 years from now.

I can imagine this would change lots of on the spot purchase decisions. It would likely save people from some relationship decisions (10 years from now... hmmm). And would also move people to do great things. On the flip side, think of the impact of a great decision 10 months or 10 years from now - like helping one family out of poverty by providing a goat or micro loan.

If you're looking for another great book (that I actually read and can recommend) check out The Best Question Ever by Andy Stanley. This book's simple approach is asking one question: what is the wisest thing to do? In light of your past experiences, your present circumstances, and your future goals, what is the wisest thing to do.

Stanley works from a different premise. He also believes God is the ultimate source of wisdom and is willing to pour it on if we just ask. He also works out of a foundational thought in the scripture to live wisely and make the most of every opportunity.

My dear friend (and hopefully mentor) Warren said this about making decisions: Buffett On Ethics: Imagine that what you are doing every day is being scrutinized by a smart, skeptical reporter who is going to write an article about it every day on the cover of your local paper. If you ever think you actions would embarrass you or your company in front of your family, customers, peers, etc., don't do it.
