movement... of prayer

I don't know what a movement of prayer would look like. Never been part of one. A real one anyone. But all the greatest moments in history when God seemed to break into our reality with his kingdom and action we're connected to lots of prayer. Sometimes prayer that took place for years preceding. Prayer that involved lots of people, praying on their knees alone, and in community - often.

I can't help think that Montreal (Quebec) needs this. I can't help think our surrounding communities (mine: West Island) needs it.

Tomorrow I'll be challenging myself first, but then our whole church to a greater commitment towards prayer. Prayer as mission. Prayer that is in line with God's will and kingdom purposes. Prayer that believes... that sees God work... that sees people changed... that breaks down people's obstacles that people have to God and the gospel... that makes a difference against injustice and evil in the world.

Sometimes I wonder: imagine we'd all respond to the challenge - to the teaching and call of the scripture every week - what would happen? I wonder, what would happen if everyone in our gathering tomorrow would take up the challenge of prayer as mission, prayer for our city, prayer for our neighbors. That would be wild, beyond our imagination. What would happen if I would...? The people praying would be transformed... the people and communities prayed for would be changed (obviously by God, and then by us who respond to the prayers we're praying).

"God alone can save the world, but God cannot save the world alone."
Stanley Grenz

God alone can save the world - so let's depend on him in prayer.
God cannot save the world alone - so let's pray and partner with him in any way he leads us.

What would happen if a movement started in me? in us? in the city?
