the art of quotes

A facility for quotation covers the absence of original thought.

- Dorothy L. Sayers

I love quotes... but more than quotes I love the learning of others... where would I be without the knowledge or insight of other people. Original thought is important, but I think the coordination and usefulness of other's original thought is even more important. Like a good Jazz player, he/she uses the licks (lines) or patterns from the past into their own improv, but how they piece it together is a work of art. Although Jazz doesn't have to say, I took that line from Dizzy or the Bird or Coltrane... when you write or speak you need to say where you got the thought from.
