exponential conference

Was in Orlando last week listening and learning at exponential 2008 a church planters conference. Pretty cool that there was 2500+ people at this thing thinking about church planting. Whether we're all real church planters making a difference is yet to be seen, but there has to be a % that will, and that's promising.

One thing that stuck out at me... REPRODUCING.
Now, I'm not a numbers person, trying not to be impressed or influenced by them. Reproducing (or exponential) sounds numbers/growth focused. I do believe in growth. I do want to see whatever # of people following Jesus and growing to be fully devoted to him. I do want to see 100% of our 40-50 people church involved in serving our community. Number do matter... but here's where I was challenged.

Even I, the smallest common denominator can reproduce. We all have a church plant inside of us (from Alan Hirsch). I.E. there's potential multiply in all of us. This is true b/c at the very basic level of what is means to follow Jesus is to make new disciples... and if we even do that only once in our lifetime (though it can happen many times) we would have reproduced.
So I'm thinking, what does it mean for...
1. me to reproduce myself
2. my family to reproduce ourselves in our neighborhood
3. the small group I'm in to reproduce ourselves
4. our volunteers to reproduce themselves
5. our church to reproduce our selves
This doesn't have to be "break the 200" type of success driven thinking. It can just be about following Jesus and responding to his call to make disciples.
It can be about being his living and local presence in my community and being intentional about listening to God's voice when he prompts me to challenge my neighbor a little.
It can be reproduction, even for a church of 40-50. Neil Cole talks about planting 50-300 churches a year... but some of them are only 7 people in size. It's still reproduction.

Not sure how this will look, but I think there's value in it.

How will I reproduce myself - in some way, or the start of it - in the next season?
