priority balance

I think Scot Mcknigt's recent post addressing how much to be involved in your church when other priorities are evident is pretty important for all of us. (it's addressed to a PHD student, but there's priorities in all fields of work and life)

My favorite line:
your first commitment needs to be to your church. Keep that commitment healthy and let it cut into your academic work...
...Overall, I’d say this: do your academic work well; if you need to slow down your academic work to maintain the proper balances of your life, slow it down. Some, you know, get their PhD and lose their families or their faith.

I've always felt th at a healthy commitment to the local church - if you're a Christian - will nurture and pour over into other parts of your life. It's not only a PHD program that has caused people to lose their family or their faith.

How does this apply to your your life situation?
