out of touch - in touch

Today I worked off site... an hour and a half out of the city.
I always say I will do this more often, I'd love to do it every 2-3 months.

It really helps me reflect, pray, write, plan and hear God so much better.
I'm often tempted to get every email, call, and respond within minutes while I'm in my office.
The drive is long, but the rewards are great.
I actually planned to stay the night, but once 7 rolled around I felt the urge to get back home, so I took off and am now sitting in my living room.

It's important for me to get centered (in God and the scriptures) every once and a while. This kind of day helps me to do this. I had a nudge in my heart this summer reminding me that I don't have a job like other people and it's my responsibility to chart out days like this because a more spiritually charged me is very important to how I lead and pastor. I need to hold my self accountable to these kinds of check points that help me guard my heart and get grounded and centered in Christ and his mission often.

On these days I get to...
...pray for every person in my church one by one; others connected in some way; people we've come into contact with recently; and all our teams and leaders.
...pray for my neighbors at length
...read longer portions of scripture
...study
...think further down the road than weekly
...check if my heart is the right place
...understand how distracted my mind gets with all the stuff, technology, and messages that grab my attention in a day

Good Night!

I did that one Sunday when I could not get to Westside. Walked over to the nearest park, sat on the bench and read my bible. Was a unique experience, to be alone and away from all distractions... something I should do more often.

Condenced version...
I actually went away a few years ago. A drive, by myself, up to Sudbury where I had met a friend (former local Mtl'er). I was about a half hour from my destination when I saw the Northern Lights, and just soaked in His creation for those few minutes. That pretty much set the tone for the weekend. The time up there was great as I used that weekend to just get fed...spiritually, and reflect. It was totlally a God weekend. It was 72 hours I won't forget!
