Jewish Sprititual Practice 101

Mudhouse Sabbath was my final read in 2006. A fun and easy read (perfect for the holidays) that introduces you to ancient Jewish practices like sabbath, fasting, hospitality, mourning, etc.

Laura Winner has been a Christian for about 7 years*, previously in the Jewish faith. She describes herself still on a "honeymoon" with Jesus, so this book is not negative towards her new found faith and life. The introduction gives you the sense she's fully embraced Christianity. However, it's a look back at the depth her Jewish practices used to bring her, which she says she misses. She reflects on how these practices can now add to her Christianity, a faith that she feels is a little more belief driven and therefore welcomes some practices (which Judaism brings).

One subtitle says, "an invitation to a life of spiritual discipline." I don't think it's that deep, but it's still a great way Christians can consider intentional practices that might help them bring depth to their own faith and experience of God.

*apparently Girl meets God describes her conversion to Christianity
