Jesus' Table

Here's 2 quotes from Brennan Manning (Ragamuffin Gospel) that really challenge my understanding of grace. I used them in a recent talk looking at the table/setting Jesus often welcomed people from all walks of life to.

We talk often about grace... and yet easily find ways not live it or extend it.

“The inclusion of sinners in the community of Salvation, symbolized in table fellowship, is the most dramatic expression of the gospel and the merciful love of a redeeming God.”

“If Jesus appeared at your dinning room table tonight with knowledge of everything you are and are not, total comprehension of your life story and every skeleton hidden in your closet; if He laid out the real state of your present discipleship with the hidden agenda, the mixed motives, and the dark desires buried in your psyche, you would feel His acceptance and forgiveness.”

"Every meal Jesus ate in his ministry was a transformative expression, a here and now enactment of the presence of the kingdom of God."

Hey, Dave.

Great reflection and quotes. If you haven't already read it, I really recommend "The Meal Jesus Gave Us" by Tom Wright. It's a little book, easy to read and filled with insights. I hope all is well with you.

Peace of Christ,
