Started my day earlier this morning with Matthew 17:1-8 & NT Wright's Commentary on Matthew (check the side bar - recent reads). Writing about the transfiguration, Wright compares this mountain scene with the mountain scene of the cross. Incredible parallel seeing that both show Jesus in all his glory - one through shinning, the other through shame. One where God speaks affirmation of his son, the other where God remains silent. One where Peter witnesses, the other where Peter hides. The beauty of it lies in the proclamation of Jesus as Messiah and the very true way to God.
"Learn to see the glory in the cross; learn to see the cross in the glory; and you will have begun to bring together the laughter and the tears of the God who hides in the cloud, the God who is to be known in the strange person of Jesus himself."
