Contentment through the Gospel
I'm not sure if any message in scripture can be this simple, but after teaching through Philippians 4:10-19 this past Sunday at Westside, this infographic is stuck in my mind. So here's a crack at it.
Cool. Simple. I think the detachment from things changes everything. Namely, your perspective. Which brings contentment. I'll go through periods where I think some thing will change my life, but it never does. And then I draw close to God and get it. Ya know?
I hear you. Often it takes me getting closer to God to help me realize it OR seeing the disappointment with my 'STUFF' or 'ACHIEVEMENT' to show me it doesn't satisfy. I think the detachment is key to dependence.
Then there's this part of me who also sees the deception in taking that to an extreme. Like not being able to enjoy God's good gifts - like an amazingly crafted guitar (that happens to cost 2-3000$) or an ice cream in Florence. These are meant to be enjoyed (but not depended on for full satisfaction)
