lopsided energy in problem solving

If men used as much care in uprooting vices and implanting virtues as they do in discussing problems, there would not be so much evil and scandal in the world, or such laxity in religious organizations…

(Thomas Kempis, The Imitation of Christ)

This really made me think about all the time discussing problems and the little time working on the problems inside us.
We - our sin - contributes to the problems in the world.

Don Miller - in Blue Like Jazz - comes to this realization while protesting a G. Bush appearance several years ago. Although he felt strongly against the issue, he realized that he - his own shortcomings - contributed to the evil in the world too.

This doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about problematic issues in the world or around us or in our lives. It's important.

However, do we/I spend at least the same amount of energy, or more, working on ourselves - and by that I mean 1. surrendering to Jesus and letting him transform us, and 2. doing our part in the process of practical steps forward in the right direction as we follow Jesus' work in our lives.
