Sharing Westside's Story

Today I had the privilege to share some learning I have encountered through church planting; i.e. what I've learned along with my church community - The Westside Gathering.

Reflecting on this always excites and inspires me more in what I'm involved in. It also gives me more clarity and confidence in our direction.

The occasion was an annual board meeting of a missional organization where every year they alot 2 hours for creative discussion. This year it was church planting and how their organization can contribute.

I didn't share alone.

Dr. Jose Da Silvia - who has done extensive work in missiology and teaches in various parts of the world - but also has planted a multicultural church in Montreal.

Dr. Ray Bakke - who is known as one of the leading scholars in urban mission and has worked in inner cities, global villages, and among his many books has also been published in Fast Company Magazine.

I'm no doctor, so I was humbled, excited and nervous to share.

What great learning from the conversation!! Here's a few thoughts...

- some new churches in China are started as businesses where the influence becomes your employees
- 4 spaces/worlds of influence that each of us have
...the church must do ministry in these spaces, not just in their own
...we can't just invite people to us, we must live among them
...spaces: neighborhood, work, family, recreation

Best quote: "Jesus is not just our mission, he's our model" (Ray Bakke)
