Awakening Concert

Sunday night I attended Awakening at Bourbon Street in Pointe-Claire. It was organized by a few groups, spear headed by www.hodgesmusic.com. The purpose of the night was to inspire people towards an awakened life - a life much more meaningful than many are actually living. It was not an outspoken Christian event, but the performers were Christian, and one thing that I noticed is that the fruit of their life was noticeable. Themes of authenticity, generosity, hope, transformation, character, a discontent for abuse and injustice in our culture, and much more.

I regret not promoting this more with all my friends, and regret not encouraging my church community a little more to invite some friends out. Awakening is the kind of atmosphere that helps spark conversation where people ask the why question - why do you see life this way, why do you fight for this cause, why do you care about people this much, why aren't you afraid to share your vulnerability, why do you have this hope, how come you can persevere, etc..

I also had the privilege of being the MC, a first for me in this kind of event and venue. It was lots of fun to open up, introduce each set, and give away prizes.

One last thought. On most nights Bourbon is filled with people trying to escape the lack of meaning in life - sitting at the slot machines, drinking a little too much at the bar, looking for someone to spend the night with (maybe everyone's not there for that reason, but I can imagine a few are).
But during Awakening it was a different atmosphere, you could feel it. There was life in the room.

There wasn't a moment that openly communicated God as the source of people's hope, but if I was hoping to spark some hope for my friends, Awakening could have helped me start the conversation.
