Tough Times

It's not my nature to presume doom or gloom. But the news isn't getting better about the economic downturn recently.

Canada might not get hit as bad as the US, but there's no doubt that this will effect us. If we don't see it this week, I think the new year will show more proof of it.

Regardless, we must be ready for good or bad.

I teach a straight message when it comes to finances.
Honor God, Honor yourself, live freely with the rest.
OR... GIVE, SAVE, SPEND.

A. In normal economic times this is enough and healthy, and prepares us in 2 ways for worse times.
1. it helps us continually trust in God, he gives to us, we give it back or away to others in need, and we're then not a slave to money (I think giving 10% is a good bench mark, but more is growing in generosity).
2. it builds reserves for financial problems; if you lost your job tomorrow who would pay your expenses for the next 1-3 months; saving makes you ready for this stuff. (I think saving at least 10% is wise, but saving more is wiser - so you can pay things cash and not get into debt).

B. In tough economic times method A is not enough. It should probably look like this: GIVE, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE, SPEND when you have to.
Why keep giving? because God is in control and it keeps me trusting.
Why save more? because you can't be too cautious in times like this.

What are you doing to be prepared: financially, emotionally, spiritually? Thoughts?
