Is there certain kinds of books you try and read every year? Or topics?
Personally, I grow from books. I also believe in constant reminder (you also might call it inspiration). Books are a form of reminder for me in some areas.
Annually here are some topics I often come back to:
Money
- this keeps me on track
- I usually need reminders about good budgeting, savings, and generosity
- I also look for new ideas in investing or forward planning
This year's read: Total Money Makeover
Spiritual Formation
- this keeps me growing spiritual
- usually I read about a spiritual discipline or inner transformation
This year's read: Red Moon Rising and Prayer
Leadership
- this keeps challenging me to grow in how I lead and influence the volunteers at our church
This year's read: IT
Mission (Missional)
- this keeps me thinking and growing my heart towards God's purposes and mission
This year's read: The Forgotten Ways
Novels
- this is just different for me, so I try and read one a year.
This year's read: The Shack (there are better novels than this, but it did have some interesting themes; and I'm really grateful, b/c it was a gift, thanks j)
Some other topics I try to keep up with are: culture, business, biblical studies, biblical themes (kingdom, gospel, the whole story, community, etc.), church planting, parenting, etc.
