Caring starts in the heart.
Hearts are usually moved by needs or experiences.
Most times we get a call from someone for help: we try to do or go.
BUT, if they don't ask, we will never know.
POINT: you cannot serve something you are not aware of.
BECOME AWARE
1. open your eyes and ears to what people are up to in our community
2. talk a little longer than small talk, you might hear something you can help with
(most times I know, b/c I ask.)
3. good questions:
- How are things?
- How's work? (oh, you're looking for work)
- How's the transition from single to married (our apartments a mess, we're bad at organizing; oh, I love that, I'd love to come by and help if you need it)
- you're not in a relationship any more (read: free time, need to hang out)
- what do you normally do during the week?
4. someone's taking a trip, maybe the need a ride to the airport.
WHAT OTHER WAYS CAN WE BECOME AWARE SO WE CAN CARE MORE?
If we want to become a caring church, we need to care. We care by knowing. We care by actions. You can rarely act unless you first know. Become aware.

This would apply in reverse order to. If you are in need, let others know. Don't complain that no one cares if no one knows. Our culture has brainwashed us into keeping appearances.
Now, a disclaimer: this doesn't mean using or abusing people. There's lots of things I need help with, but there's lots of things I have the responsibility of taking care of myself.
