Christianity is not a philosophy that can be learned separate from those who embody it. If the truth that is Christ were a truth that could be known “in principle” then we would not need apostles. But the way of the gospel is known is by one person being for another person the story of Christ.
…faithfulness, not… status, should be the characteristic that shapes the witness of the church.
the kingdom unleashed by Jesus is the kingdom of hospitality
Governors and kings understand those who would violently over them. What they cannot face is the power of a people who refuse to fear them because they rightly fear God. The fear of God makes truthful speech possible.
the thought that came to mind is this: the church is not necessarily called to be significant in the sense of having status, but it is called to be sent.
