an interesting read by Erwin McManus found here
I'm not sure I should get caught up with the label thing either (although I, and many, are prone to it). It has nothing to do with "emerging," or "emergent."
I find that in the last 10 years whenever I've associated myself with a label, the label has some how (maybe not drastically) put me in a corner. And in a beautiful God-way, the scriptures have often forced my learning out of that label. It's not that the label was/is unbiblical. Nor is it to say that the scriptures evolve. However my understanding, learning, and living of them does - I hope so. If I know everything there is to know about them today, they can't be that important. They - and the story in them - are bigger then me. In that sense I do emerge, but calling yourself emergent can also become another label.
Thoughts?

Good point, Dave. We humans are definitely transient beings. Your post reminds me of Peter's words:
"All humans are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever."
1 Peter 1:23-25
(Whoa! I think your spirituality is rubbing on me. Either I need a tylenol or a swear word to make me feel alright again.)
ah, finally, my prayers are starting to work!
good text, gives perspective to ourselves and our opinions.
