what brings us together?

Left a meeting this morning with some city pastors about a leadership event that I tend to enjoy and promote. One of things stuck in my head is that this event is promoted as something that really connects church leaders from a wide variety of traditions. I believe in unity. I believe that the Kingdom of God is bigger then my church, my chuch association, my network of church friends. But I left pndering why this leadership stuff unites us so much. I have some questions.

Is it because it doesn't have much to do with our faith?
Is it because leadership and faith can work together but still remain exclusive?
Is it because leadership doesn't ruffle our convictions like interpretation of scripture does?
Is it because leadership helps us each achieve something - and everyone likes to achieve?
Is it because lots of these conferences teach broad principles and don't get into the gospel?

Again, i'm not against them. There's a few I enjoy, and several leaders in them I respect - not just because of their leadership but also their conviction towards mission.

Another question: is their/our conviction towards mission another achievement pursuit?

Last question: can't there be a better, more deeper core that unites us?

I'd appreciate the dialogue on this one.
