"The goal of Scripture is to build up love … and Augustine is famous for this in his On Christian Doctrine. If the interpretive result does not produce love of God and love of neighbor, the interpreter has not understood Scripture."
I've taught on loving God and others sporadically over the summer calling it the ONE THING you need to know and live as a Christ follower. Reading this quote from Scot McKnight's blog on Augustine's view of scripture fits right into the One Thing.
If scripture doesn't lead me towards living that out, then I got to ask myself: how am I reading it, how am I understanding it, how am I praying it, how am I living it?
